A skiing week in Cortina: reach for the Pearl of the Dolomites aboard a Lamborghini Urus.

01 December 2020

We can confidently affirm that there is no other famous and worldly mountain resort in the world like Cortina d'Ampezzo; it excels over equally luxurious and famous rivals such as Courmayeur, Sankt Moritz and Aspen.

It is no coincidence that Aspen, in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, is called the Cortina of America, given the huge number of Hollywood celebrities who choose it for their winter holidays.

Supporting our thesis we also bring the fact that an episode of the comic book Mickey Mouse is dedicated to the "Pearl of the Dolomites" - or Queen of the Dolomites as it is sometimes called: where Donald Duck and his three nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie on holiday in a very trendy location, none other than Lunghina d'Antocco!

It is in Cortina d'Ampezzo that the Christmas Holiday is set. That 1983 film directed by Carlo Vanzina, destined to become the progenitor of that lucky film franchise that the specialised press has given the nickname "cine-panettone" (and just for completeness we point out that the sixteenth film of the saga is Vacanze di Natale a Cortina, that was written and directed by Neri Parenti in 2011).

Are you still not satisfied? All right, we have another ace in the hole! Cortina is also the only Italian resort to be included in the Best of the Alps, a European association that brings together the 12 best Alpine centres from five participating nations.

Given the above, you will agree with us that there is no better way of reaching this place other than renting a Lamborghini Urus from Italian Luxury Car Hire, the luxury SUV from the car manufacturer of Sant'Agata Bolognese. You will certainly not go unnoticed because, with its coupé style, lowered lines and ultra-luxury interiors equipped with all the most innovative technologies, the Urus SUV is unquestionably a car that strikes at first glance anyone who has the fortune of stumbling across it. The Urus can be at your complete disposal before you leave for your holidays in Cortina, or you can find it waiting on your arrival, in the hotel or wherever you prefer; for your convenience, we would like to point out that the closest railway stations to Cortina are those of Calalzo di Cadore, 35 km away, and Dobbiaco, 31 km away, while the nearest airports are Venice Marco Polo, 162 km away, Catullo di Verona, 260 km away, and Innsbruck-Kranebitten Airport, Austria, located 170 km away.

Cortina: altitude and other useful information for your winter holidays on the snow.

The municipality of Cortina is located at 1224 metres above sea level and is situated in the centre of the Conca d'Ampezzo, in the Upper Boite Valley. What makes the resort deserve the names of Pearl of the Dolomites and Queen of the Dolomites is certainly the fact that it is fully surrounded by the Ampezzo Dolomites, which give it an unparalleled beauty. The town includes - among its most famous mountains - the Tofane, the Cristallo, the Faloria, the Pomagagnòn, the Cinque Torri Cortina, which are some of the most spectacular and panoramic peaks in the world.

Since 1974 - and this is another item to support the claim that we have been making since the beginning of this article, namely that there is no equally famous and worldly mountain resort in the world - Cortina has been one of the six founding members of the Dolomiti Superski project. Starting from the 1956 Winter Olympic Games - an additional fact that confirms our claim: Cortina also hosted the first Italian edition of the Winter Olympics, the VII of 1956, and will host the XXV together in Milan in 2026 - earning another epithet, that of Grande Dame of the ski circuit.

During your skiing holiday in Cortina, you will have the opportunity to whiz down 120 km of slopes, from gentle descents to steep slopes. There are over thirty ski lifts today, with cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts that allow you to reach the numerous slopes of Tofana, Cortina Cube and 5 Torri Cortina-ColGallina-Lagazuoi areas. There is, of course, the opportunity to engage in other sports, such as Nordic skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, curling, climbing on icefalls, snowshoeing and much more.

After the hard work on the snow, you can have a refreshment in one of the many restaurants in the shelters, where you can enjoy a plate of red or green casunziei (very tasty stuffed ravioli), dumplings or spatzle, not to mention goulash with polenta.

If holidays in the mountains are synonymous with complete relaxation, you can go shopping in the famous Corso Italia Cortina, whose shops can satisfy any need: from antiques to high jewellery, from clothing to floral decor, under the Church Bell Tower you can find everything you want, giving yourself a break - if done well, shopping is also physical activity! - in one of the many bars, wine bars, pastry shops, where you can enjoy a snack, a snack or an aperitif.

What are you waiting for? Rent your Lamborghini SUV now and set off for the most glamorous resort in the entire Alpine mountain range!
